New USA Career-High Rankings, Feb. 2, 2015

Each week I will bring you a list of USAmerican players who have reached a new career-high ranking (CHR). This list covers all players in the Top 1000. Any player outside the Top 1000 will not be included unless they actually have earned at least one point from their previous career-high ranking. See all the CHR posts.

Some remarkable successes from Americans over the past 2 weeks (there was no ranking update last week due to the Australian Open).  Here's how these amazing women achieved their successes:

  • Keys, Vandeweghe, and Brengle all had career-best slam performances in Melbourne. CoCo lost in the third round to Brengle, who lost in the fourth round to Keys. Gibbs also won a round at the Australian Open, then lost an extremely tight one to Svitolina (26) in two tiebreaks. Min and Townsend were in the Melbourne main draw but lost first round, advancing due to others falling.
  • At the $25K in Daytona Beach, FL a week ago, Lauren Embree reached the second round, which bumped her up a few spots.
  • In Antalya, Turkey, Tina Tehrani won her first main draw match since August (also at a $10K in Antalya)
  • Finally, there were some good USA match wins at $10K events in the French departments of Martinique (week of Jan. 13) and Guadeloupe (week of Jan. 20): Guarachi had consecutive quarterfinals, Frenkel reached a quarter and a semi, while Arconada won the second tournament (her first career title). Morozova and Ivanova each won a match in the Guadeloupe tournament, then reached the semis in doubles together.

Note: the "WELCOME TO THE TOP 100, GRACE MIN!" party will be at my apartment a week from Thursday. Please BYOC (bring your own cake).

Exceptional work by American teenagers at the sub-ATP World Tour level in January. Donaldson won a title at the Maui Challenger, Kozlov reached the QF there (and at the Long Beach Futures); Baughman won a Futures in Sunrise, FL, Tiafoe reached the semis there and the final the following week in Weston, FL; Paul got to the Weston quarters, while Rybakov won a match there.

Among the 20&over crowd, the big results were from Maui finalist Meister, Long Beach Futures semifinalist Sarkissian, Long Beach quarterfinalist Krueger, and Long Beach first-round-winner Johnson.
