Return the mighty King

It was an unusual choice. Chicago native Evan King, who had taken several months off from the pro tour, chose four Futures tournaments in Southern Africa to make his comeback. First was a tournament in Maputo, Mozambique, where he made the second round in singles and won doubles with Anderson Reed. Things really took off for him in Harare, Zimbabwe, where he won his first career singles title, then reached a semifinal and final. Along the way he picked up a second doubles title with Reed and reached a third doubles final. All in all, a very successful trip.

Evan returned to the US on Sunday, and on Tuesday took a few minutes before watching his friend Jason Jung play his friend Dennis Nevolo in the first round of the Winnetka Challenger. Enjoy his discussion of the African Futures events, his time as an assistant at the University of Michigan, and the 2014 Grantland article that brought him, Jung, and the Futures circuit significant attention.
