New USA Career-High Rankings, June 15, 2015

Each week I will bring you a list of USAmerican players who have reached a new career-high ranking (CHR). This list covers all players in the Top 1000. Any player outside the Top 1000 will not be included unless they actually have earned at least one point from their previous career-high ranking. See all the CHR posts.

Nottingham WTA: Sachia Vickery getting to her second career WTA quarterfinal - as a qualifier, no less - in Nottingham tops this week's list. She had to engineer an incredible second-round comeback against Zarina Diyas, in which she saved six match points, ultimately winning 4-6 7-6(5) 5-1. The points will give her some buffer come August, when she will be faced with points from her first quarterfinal - at the premier-level Stanford event.

Bethany Beach $10K: 16-year-old Alexa Graham, who has mostly bypassed junior events, Elizabeth Profit, Nicole Frenkel, reached her second final of the year. Somewhat unusually, in both finals she lost to a Canadian (Gloria Liang in Martinique, Sonja Molnar here in Delaware). At the same event, 17yo Nicole Frenkel reached her 5th 6th semifinal while 18yo Elizabeth Profit reached her first semifinal.

Manzanillo, Mexico $10K: The University of Michigan's Amy Zhu qualified for and reached her first-ever quarterfinal here, but had to retire in that match. Still, it marks her rankings debut1 Dasha Ivanova reached the second round but fell to a wild card.

Bumped up as others fell: Katerina Stewart, Lauren Embree, Erica Oosterhout.

Bjorn Fratangelo was the standout last week among this group - he appeared in his second career challenger final, in Caltanissetta, where he got a bit overwhelmed by Elias Ymer. He's secured a decent seed at Wimbledon qualies; however, it will be his first pro match on grass. So, there's that.

Sock was one of many who moved up despite playing, but despite his absence, he's well positioned for his first-ever seed at a Grand Slam event. Which is crucial because, barring a last-minute wild card into Nottingham, he'll have no grass-court warmup.

Everything else represents work done at the Futures level.

USA F16A/Winston-Salem: This Futures took place outside the scope of the USTA Pro Circuit, but was a boon to many Americans. 13 of the 16 first round winners were Team USA, as were all but 1 of the quarterfinalists (the eventual winner, Princeton's Matija Pecotic (CRO)). Raymond Sarmiento got the huge bump as a semifinalist, Mico Santiago as a quarterfinalist, and Hunter Nicholas (San Diego State), Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (UVA) and rankings debutante Jonathan Ho (Wake) getting to the second round - ho as a wild card on his college courts.

MEX F5/Manzanillo: Andre Dome was the champion here, his second title in just over a month, improving his ranking over 300 spots since May 4. He's around #400 in the Race to London, which is just exceptional work. Collin Johns won his first round match when fellow American Farzin Danny Amiri retired after they split sets.

ISR F7/Tel Aviv-Ramat Gan: Two guys on the list collected points here: Cameron Silverman, quarterfinalist, and Northwestern University star Raleigh Smith, who reached the second round.
