This is a long list, but as you can see, there are only three players whose ranking increased more than a handfull - all three of them were, like me, in Quebec!  It was super excellent to watch Rogers, Muhammad and Marand (as well as Brengle and Lao) play in person. Muhammad was in particular exciting as she came back from a break down in the third in three successive matches, although she lost in a third set tiebreak (to Rogers) in that final match.

In the next few months, I'll be looking to see if Rogers can break the Top 50, Brengle the Top 100, and Muhammad the Top 200.  As for Marand, it's great to see her progress again after a bit of a slip over the summer.  She has 42 points to defend through the end of the year so some good ITF events are a must if she wants to make the Australian Open qualifying cut (hint: she does).

An impressively tiny group this week, with nobody in the Top 300 moving up (due in part to the absence of challengers in North America and futures in the USA).  The two biggest movers, Bangoura and Shane, got their points at the Canada Futures tournament a week ago: Bangoura reached the semis while Shane got to the quarters.  Nguyen also reached the CAN F9 semifinal.  For his part, Song reached the final of the Mexico Futures that same week.

More names should appear in the next couple of weeks as there will be increased opportunities for points at challenger and ATP World Tour events.  In the meantime, congratulations to the seven men above!

The US Open was a big disappointment for US men, some of whom, with better results, could have made big moves.  Johnson, despite losing in the first round in a very memorable way, moved up due to others not defending points.  But still: welcome to the Top 50, sir!  Extremely well deserved.  Three players who did post wins, in qualies, were Escobedo, Altamirano, and Kozlov, the latter two of whom are separated by one (1) ranking point.

Krajicek's win in Medellin had to feel good after a number of rough losses all year.  He played tremendously all week (also winning the doubles crown) and is now well positioned for upcoming challengers, where he may well be seeded, and not too much coming off through the end of the year.

Edit: Connor Smith's entry last week was incorrect.

A huge haul this week compared to last.  Some nice wins in New York: Bellis most prominently, Gibbs with a longer run, and Stewart, Black, and Whoriskey in qualies.  How impressive is it to have four top-500 debutantes in the same week from the same country?

The other huge mover is Nadja Gilchrist, who reached the semis of the $25K in Winnipeg a few weeks ago and who is now 17-5 this year.  Outside the Top 1000 a month ago, it's exciting times for the former Bulldog.
